Friday, November 22, 2024
7pm-9pm

House of Harmony is a three-act performance, featuring original fashion, music, choreography/dance, cinema, and art installations. Inspired by Beyoncé’s Renaissance and in the medium of a runway, House of Harmony imbued the sensation of existence as resistance in representing shared experiences of people with marginalized identities.

Scott Brian’s Dream Initiative with the USC Performing Arts Committee
House of Harmony is part of the USC Performing Arts Committee’s “Dream Initiative,” designed and integrated by Scott Brian. Scott founded this initiative in 2022 to feature the voices of student artists across USC through producing events and experiences that have never been seen before and that innovate the convergence of art forms. Scott oversaw production, creative, and promotional teams as the Executive Director of the Performing Arts Committee and Executive Producer of House of Harmony. He paired creative directors Sean Gúzman and Martín Aguirre after noticing their shared passions and complementary skillsets.

Artistic Statement by Creative Directors Sean Gúzman & Martín Aguirre
In our experiences living with marginalized identities, we have undergone the phases of Discovery, Resistance, and Rebirth. We have found these moments manifest themselves. in different ways and at different times, but are consistent across our experiences exploring and embracing our identities. With House of Harmony, the phases we will cover are a part of the experiences and realities of individuals across the globe. For many of us, beyond a deeper understanding of who we are, these phases have awakened the realization that our existence is a form of resistance. Against systems, norms, and groups who experience the world differently than we do, we resist through our art and our ability to create and inspire. We recognize and acknowledge that people of all backgrounds might experience these differently, and we extend an invitation to interact with them in a personal, connected way. We have chosen a team of Black, Latine, and Queer creatives to bring their own perspectives and experiences in connection to these concepts. Our goal is to express these phases from the unique lenses of our lived experiences, with the hopes that people who identify differently will still find resonance and inspiration in them.”
